5 Ways to Save Your Smelly Bathroom

Bathroom Cleaning Services

Here are some tips to help you keep your bathroom odor-free.

Routinely clean your bathroom

Routinely cleaning your shower case or tub, toilet, sink and bathroom floor are essential to keeping a bathroom odor free. Lysol is a professionally used product to disinfect bathrooms, doorknobs, and countertops. Keep a laundry basket in your bathroom to hold dirty clothes. Keep a microfiber cloth near your sink to wipe the basin. You can easily wash your microfiber cloth in the wash later. Keep a shower case or tub cleaner at hand and regularly wash bathroom floor rugs.

Invest in an air purifier

A good air purifier with an odor-combating filter is another great way to keep your bathroom smelling clean. An effective odor filter can work by destroying odor particles at the molecular level with catalyzing filter or through the process of adsorption with a filter that uses activated carbon. This makes air purifiers the perfect appliance for bathrooms as they can eliminate stubborn smells and keep the air in your washroom fresh and clean. Find an air purifier that fits in comfortably in your bathroom and that caters to the needs you require in terms of price and filter-type. Typically, bathrooms are smaller spaces and will require an air purifier with less square foot coverage.

Keep an eye out for mold and mildew

Mold and mildew are common culprits of bathroom odors. Mold is most likely to grow in the grout between tiles. To prevent mold, scrub your tiles frequently to minimize the possibility of mold growth. Mildew can grow in the tub or shower, where moisture is more prevalent. Spray down shower cases with a cleaner and wiper and regularly clean your tub and shampoo cubbies. Throw out old shampoo bottles or soap. Rings of gunk can form around the base of the bottle if it is left untouched. Be sure to scrub out leftover soap from a soap caddy before replacing it with a fresh piece.

Clean your drains

Drains are an often neglected but are a serious cause of bathroom odors. Clogged drains can contain odors, which is why it is important to constantly unclog your drain of hair or other debris. If you unclog your drain and the smell persists, try checking your P-trap. A broken P-trap can be problematic as it allows these sewer gasses to infiltrate your home. Sulfur in bath water can also be a cause of smells from your faucets. If your water begins to have a white, milky color, there may be air leaking in from a pipe somewhere. A water softener can also help remove minerals from your water if it is too hard and leaves a ring in your sink or bathtub.

Use automatic toilet bowl cleaners

Toilet bowls can have traces of leftover bodily fluids. They are a hot spot for odors and can be a pain to clean. Uncleaned toilets can build up bacteria and leave a foul smell in the bathroom. Regularly clean your toilet to eliminate any potentials of an odor. To make it an easier task, invest in an automatic toilet bowl cleaner which cleans your toilet every time you flush. Be sure to disinfect your flush handle and toilet seat cover. It is recommended to clean your toilet at least once a week, or every two days if needed.
